Going Green in St Nicks

By Carys (2P), See Kei (1C)

In recent years, a lot of emphasis has been placed on sustainable living, lower energy consumptions and lesser greenhouse gases emissions. We’ve heard about sustainable efforts of the government in community centres and housing estates. What about in schools? Here are some examples of sustainable efforts in St Nicks!

Look at how bright these lights are! Wonder how they are powered? Well, they receive electricity from the solar panels we have here in St Nicks!

This is an example of our very own electricity generator! Here in St Nicks, there are rows of solar panels that generate electricity to power up the school. This is a small yet impactful effort that St Nicks made to being more sustainable.

This is an up-close view of the solar panels we have in school. How cool right?

Do these lights look familiar? Well, they are the lights that St Nicks previously had in their classroom.

Recently, our school replaced the previous vibrant, white lights with slightly duller lights. However, don’t be fooled by appearance! Despite emitting yellow hues, these new lights not only help to save more electricity, but they also reduce eye strain. What a positive change!

Another example of sustainable efforts here in St Nicks. Some of the air-conditioners we have in our school are also powered by solar panels.

Besides energy efficient alternative, there are many plantations around the school. The greenery we have are part of our efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting going green!

Moreover, the iconic 小红桥 is also surrounded by plants and shrubbery. This is another example which highlights our school’s initiative to going green!

Remember that every effort counts, no matter how small! You can start by switching from plastic containers to reusable ones!
