"There’s a valuable lesson here, son. If you turn your back on your first evil sensei in an effort to go straight… you may not be served creamy biscuits." Ah, Just another serious yet hilarious quote from Garmadon. Can’t seem to find a funny yet impactful and emotional tv series? Haven’t heard of Ninjago?
Allow me to introduce to you my favourite tv show of all time, even through phases where I absolutely love other shows - Ninjago always outweighs them. Perhaps you have heard about this show but were told that it was merely a children’s show - but hear me out when I say that Ninjago is so much more than that.
Ninjago is a show revolving around an invested plot that is not only easy to understand, but also grappling enough to keep you on the edge of your seat and binge watch many episodes at a time. Ninjago’s storyline is a perfect blend of incredibly hilarious contextual comedy and impactful moments, such as realisation, acceptance, loss, betrayal, and abandonment - a carefully crafted recipe of sweet and bitter moments to keep you wanting more. In particular, I enjoyed the Sons of Garmadon season - I’m trying to refrain myself from spoiling the plot here, but it’s packed with shocking revelations, insights into one’s identity, an unexpected twist all the way at the end, and it is most definitely a season that goes hand in hand with a bitter lore from Harumi and some deep epiphanies for Lloyd. Prime Empire is also an example of an unforgettable season with a variety of memorable characters and a unique theme revolving around touching moments, quirky lines and more.
Ninjago also has many intriguing characters complete with unseen lores, comedic tropes, and impactful relationships with entertaining interactions. Each and every character has a unique personality shaped with depth by experiences and people.
Furthermore, this tv series has amazing values and themes of teamwork, leadership, resilience, loyalty, and acceptance. While Ninjago is targeted at children, it caters to people of all ages. In fact, I was surprised to find that instead of being a childish show, it was actually an interesting show that appealed to teenagers in particular, and to some adults even.
Besides, Ninjago has a very defined animation style which personally, I find seems to improve as the seasons progress. Hence, I recommend you to watch the later seasons (which have more plot twists and better animations than the earlier seasons), preferably starting from the season of Sons of Garmadon if you are going to skip over the early seasons. However, some of the early seasons are also quite impactful, so maybe try watching the Tournament of Elements season or the Skybound season.
Well, if you do decide to start on this awesome tv series, beware because it can be addictive and cause you to binge watch multiple seasons! If you do get invested in the Ninjago lore, there’s a whole fandom out there with memes that will leave you not being able to breathe before you can even laugh. And just for a cherry on top, when you’re done watching all the episodes and want more, there’s a current season in the process of being made so don’t be sad that it’s over!
Hope you start watching Ninjago!
