As the old classic fairy tale, the movie of Cinderella is a remake of the story, in which the father of the new character Ella remarried following the death of her mother. She found herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family as they showed their true colours and made her nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed her Cinderella. Despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella was determined to honour her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.” Like her mother, she did not once give in to despair nor despise those who mistreated her and still held on to her belief and stayed strong for herself. Of course, she met the prince in the woods but was unaware that he was the prince. Just like how the old story goes, her stepmother forbade her to attend the palace ball and while drowning in desperation, the highlight of the movie, her fairy god mother appeared, armed with a pumpkin and a few mice, and changed Cinderella’s life forever. As a huge fan of Cinderella and Disney, I had to catch this movie after months and months of waiting. It was fantastic and at the same time familiar as the story of Cinderella had always played a big part of my growing up years. I loved how Ella stayed strong to her beliefs even when she was mistreated by her step family, for her mother. The key message of “courage and kindness” was really influential and inspirational. The touching part of Ella not giving up despite all the challenges she was facing alone at such a young age solely because of her mother and her close family bond was another important element of the movie. This classic did not fail to disappoint with its majestic soundtrack and the grand set and costumes. I believe this movie caters to all ages as every part of the movie touches the heart as the sense of familiarity, reminisce and childhood memories comes back with this classic tale.
