The Untamed is the English name of a Chinese drama, originally named 《陈情令》. It is a show which tells the story between 2 male characters, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, their relationship, the progression of their characters, as well as the many challenges which they faced. This drama is a xianxia one which was set in the ancient times, and is adapted from a novel written by 墨香铜臭, called 《魔道祖师》, The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation.
The world which the story was set in was filled with martial arts, magic, and intricate family dynamics. I extremely enjoyed that both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were very well-developed with a tender and impactful slowburn bromance, as well as their relationship evolving against a backdrop of moral dilemmas, betrayal, and loyalty. Themes of justice, sacrifice, and redemption are central to the story while exploring questions about moral ambiguity and what it means to stay true to oneself.
This drama caused me to go through and experience a wide array of emotions, such as heartfelt joy, gratitude, sorrow, shock and heartbreak. I especially loved the development of the relationship between the main characters, and also the many plot twists throughout the show. If given the chance, I would do anything just to rewatch The Untamed for the first time again.
