Thirteen Reasons Why is the debut novel of Jay Asher. It tells the tale of a boy named Clay Jensen. He returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide about two weeks earlier.
Through tape recordings, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. After he listens, he finds out how he made the list and in which position he is in. To find out what happens in the end, please go read the story!
This is a very well written story and will be sure to touch reader’s hearts. When you pick up the book and start reading, you simply cannot put it down. Through this book, I have learnt to treat people better and how to understand their actions. It will definitely change your life and the way you see others. I will most definitely recommend this book to my friends.
This book was also made into a movie in 2011, with Selena Gomez playing the lead role of Hannah.
