As one of Italy’s most iconic desserts, the word “tiramisu” literally translates to “pick me up”. Its origins remains highly disputed, with some believing that its birthplace was Treviso in the 1960s, while others can argue that the story of this simple dessert began in Siena in the 1800s.
Regardless of its origins, this layered dessert is a beloved staple to many. While it may appear difficult, it simply consists of delicate ladyfingers soaked in coffee, mascarpone cream, and cocoa powder as its cherry on top. For a richer depth of flavours, a shot of espresso or rum is often added to its components.
As Bar Primi chef Sal Lamboglia explains, “A great tiramisu has a gentleness that comes along with it”. This fluffy, creamy and chocolate dessert has captured the hearts of its customers for being perfectly balanced — not too sweet and not too bitter — becoming a popular choice in the restaurant industry.
