“Taylor Swift. You know her. The blonde with the red lips. But all you wanna know is how many guys she's kissed. You say ‘Taylor’s Version’ is a scam and you’re sick of her fans, but you’ll never understand. She’s Fearless, she’s not afraid to Speak Now and stand up amongst a crowd. She taught us love can be burning red but eventually golden. She takes pride in herself and the year she was born, 1989. She told us your Reputation is valuable, but it has to be broken for your life to be unfolded. And that love isn’t always about having a Lover. She took us through a Folklore even though it won’t be Forever And Always like Evermore. She shared her Midnights through a lifetime. She gave us the key, the key to Stay Beautiful, be Gorgeous, be The Man, feel more than just a Cardigan, to get through Champagne Problems, to learn Karma is real, and that you can’t spell cats without ‘ts’. So Taylor is more than a guy she’s kissed; she’s a gift us Swifties will never, ever, ever forget.” I’m not sure if you have heard this before, but let me sum it up for you. Taylor Swift, you would know her. But all most people care about is things like the amount of exes she’s had. But what do her fans, Swifties, see in her?
As a Swiftie myself, I will share my opinions on her. I don’t see her as just a singer or celebrity. I see her as a friend, one that could “understand” me without knowing me. Being able to connect with me through her songs that I relate to. Helping me through tough times with just her words. She once said, “If someone uses name-calling to bully you on social media, and even if a lot of people jump on board with it, that doesn’t have to defeat you; it can strengthen you instead. I think bthat the lesson is that you shouldn’t care so much if you feel misunderstood by the people who don't know you. As long as you feel understood by the people who do know you, people who will show up for you, people who see you as a human being.” What Taylor said made me realize that I don’t need to be bothered by opinions of people that don’t know me, but instead focus on the fact that there are people around me who love me and will support me no matter what.
“What’s the hype about Taylor Swift?” “Why do people love her so much?” “What's so good about her?” “She’s just a singer; why do you care about her so much?”. My answer is simple. She fixed things she never broke. She’s healed so many people through her music. Her songs make many of us feel understood, loved, not alone. The album I relate to most is Speak Now. Speak Now is like in the teenage era where we discover things, heartbreaks (not really though), backstabbings, and transitions (from teenagers to adulthood, even though I haven’t experienced that yet.), but mainly because of the teenage experiences. Learning that my dreams could be reality if I wanted to try and put effort into it. And the song Long Live made me realize that I would always have memories, good or bad, but I will always remember the friendships I made throughout my teenage years.
Not just her songs, but she herself, as a person. She gives really great advice and is an inspiration for me. There was once, she said, “You don’t have to forgive, and you don’t have to forget to move on.” My interpretation of this is that we can move on without forgiving and forgetting because it's hard to forgive and even harder to forget. Moving on doesn't mean we have to do those things; we just need to learn that what they did to us was wrong, and there's no turning back in time for them to undo it, so we just have to keep looking forward in life.
Taylor was once asked, “If you had a superpower, what would it be?” She replied, “Healing people.” As I said previously, she healed things she never broke. She’s healed so many people through her words and songs. Many people go through heartbreaks and tough times, and the lyrics of her songs make them feel like they’re not alone when having those feelings and feel understood when no one else around them relates to them.
“Who is your favorite singer or celebrity?” My simple answer is Taylor Swift. To me, she's not just a singer but a person who understands me for who I am and relates to me despite not knowing me at all.
