The annual Aesthetics Week provides a plethora of opportunities to cultivate a deeper appreciation of Music, Art, D&T and FCE for both primary and the secondary students. The theme for the Aesthetics Week this year is ‘Sustainability for All’.
Our 姐妹们 participated in a wide variety of activities which showcased our creativity and talent in designing, composing, artmaking and cooking!
For instance, students designed their class mascot using recycled or biodegradable materials; some even created a Dreamcatcher using recycled cloth and chopsticks! Our Primary 妹妹们 also took part in the Art and Music Bingo Quest.
The Secondary One students designed the most efficient catapult using ice-cream sticks, which was challenging and fun. Tensions ran high as they watched their catapults being put to the test to determine the catapult that achieved the longest range. In the process, they also learnt the engineering behind the science of constructing a catapult.
During FCE lessons, students learnt a lot about Singapore's food security initiatives through informative posters on our agriculture history, local farms, ways to reduce food wastage and the ‘30 by 30’ goal. The ‘30 by 30’ goal is our national effort to strengthen our food security by building our country’s capabilities to produce 30% of our food locally by 2030. We also had our St Nicks “Masterchef Competition” where each Secondary 2 class sent two representatives to plan and come up with a meal that used locally produced ingredients.
Furthermore, we learnt during the Music workshops to compose our own ringtones using the GarageBand app under the guidance of our lower secondary music representatives. We were also treated to a showcase by our Secondary 4 Music Elective Programme 姐姐们 and a STOMP performance by our teachers and school leader!
This year, we continued with the collaboration with our Joint IP schools (Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, Catholic High School and Eunoia Junior College) to put up an amazing online JIP Art Exhibition.
All in all, it was definitely a delightful occasion to remember. We learnt a lot about sustainability from the different activities and programmes, all planned by our amazing teachers and 姐妹们.
