“Don’t they look stunning tonight?” the emcees collectively exclaimed as the Secondary 4 graduands entered the ballroom to a chorus of cheer from their fellow batchmates. Adorned with beautiful dresses complimented with exquisite accessories, they were as dazzling as stars in the night sky, which was inline with this year’s theme, “Starry Starry Night”.

Taking everyone on a walk down memory lane, the heartwarming video montage prepared by the Secondary 4 Year Heads was played. Laughter echoed around as everyone watched with rapt attention as they recounted the highlights of the past four years, ending with an enthusiastic sing-along to ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’.

This was followed by heartfelt messages by the School Leaders, as well as Student Council President, Lee Si Jia. The Class of 2022 was commended for their adaptability in overcoming the unprecedented crisis of a generation. They were also reminded of the love and support that their family, the school leaders, and teachers have shown them throughout their 4-year journey. As Mrs Tan poignantly put it, “St Nicks will always be part of you, just like how you will always be a part of St Nicks.”

After a rousing round of applause to conclude the speeches, the highly anticipated event of the night arrived. It was finally time to tuck in to the delectable fine dining 7-course dinner! Mouth-watering dishes like Roast Garlic Chicken and Smoked Duck were served to the delight of the graduates who ate heartily.

While the different courses were served, it was also a time to celebrate the successes and achievements of the graduands over the year with an Awards Presentation Ceremony! Beaming ear to ear, they went up the stage to collect their certificates in recognition of their efforts. The award recipients were met with cheers of support from their fellow batchmates as they received the Good Service, Best in Subject and Academic Excellence awards respectively.

As the night was coming to a close, the lights dimmed, marking the start of the lighting of candles, a long-standing tradition where the SchoolLeaders and distinguished guests from the IJ Board, Parent Support Group and Alumnae Association 姐姐们 will light their candles and pass it down to the Secondary 4 Form Teachers who will then pass down the flame to their respective classes. It symbolises the extension of our prayers to the graduands as they start a new chapter of their lives, and also shows the solidarity we have with them.

As the graduands huddled together around their tables in the dim glow of their candles, it was truly an ethereal sight to behold! The all too familiar melody of the IJ song ‘Hold On To Our Dream’ started playing, and soon the melodious chorus of voices of the graduands reverberated around the ballroom as the hopeful lyrics tugged at heartstrings, an encouraging send-off to them as they embark on new journeys in their lives. Following this, the graduating cohort had one last Family Dance, symbolic of their unity and sisterly love for one another.

Lastly, the graduands proudly sang the school song, the lyrics resonating deeply with all the fulfilling experiences they shared in their 4-year journey in the school. As a new chapter of their lives unfold, we wish the graduating cohort the best in their future endeavours!
