2022 Year 4 World Readiness Symposium

The yearly World Readiness Symposium (WRP) is a key event for every Integrated Programme student from Catholic High School, Singapore Chinese Girls’ School and CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School to gather to have fruitful discussions before meeting each other at Eunoia Junior College. 

The event started off with an enlightening speech centered on the topic of sustainability by the Principal of Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, Mrs Linda Chan. Afterwards, the main guest speaker of the event, Ms Manda Foo, gave a talk on urban and sustainable farming - the ultimate future of local fruit and vegetable produce. As an alumni of SCGS and an experienced worker in the sustainable farming industry, Ms Foo shared many interesting stories and illuminating statistics, leaving us in awe and wonder. Many of us learnt new facts about the urban farming industry.

Following the talk, students from the three schools entered their respective breakout rooms where they took turns to share their presentation, followed by an open discussion to clarify any queries they had about the presentation. Students were totally immersed in the discussion as they shared the topic of sustainability from different viewpoints.

Valencia Lee from 4 Wisdom shared her thoughts about the event, “It was a really fun event and I learnt the importance of the farming industry. Regarding sustainability, I feel that we still have much to achieve as we progress as a society. I really enjoyed being able to have an open discussion with a diverse range of views.”

This symposium marked the end of four years of WRP symposiums for our batch which brought many benefits to us. We know for a fact that if we could take part in such an event again, we would happily do it!
