St Nicks was abuzz with eager anticipation and merriment, for it was finally time for our annual Aesthetics Week! This year's theme, "Aes-pression", rightly highlighted the multiple platforms for students to express themselves and engage in a range of enjoyable activities related to Music, Art, Food and Consumer Education (FCE), and Design and Technology (D&T). These activities provided students with opportunities to deepen their understanding and appreciation for these subjects while fostering bonds with their friends through shared experiences.
To begin, several booths were set up at the canteen, family lounge and spiral staircase. Whether it was making dreamcatchers, learning about textile making or appreciating our schoolmates’ one-of-a-kind artistic skills, we could see the hard work and effort put in behind the scenes to ensure that these activities were both enriching and enjoyable.
Additionally, the competitions and performances sprinkled throughout the week had further enthused us. From the captivating showcase of our schoolmates’ brilliant talents in the dance performances and open mic sessions during recess, to exciting opportunities to participate in buzz bot and cooking competitions, our week was indeed interesting and enjoyable. While the D&T department’s buzz bot provided a platform for us to flaunt our handy skills, the FCE department’s cooking competition spotlighted those with a knack for cooking as they whipped up delicacies of every kind. Apart from students, staff and teachers also had the chance to share their family’s very own secret recipes.
As part of Aesthetics Week, members of the Art Club also got to visit National Gallery Singapore, where they both fascinated and inspired by the various types of artworks displayed.
Finally, saving the best for last, the week ended on a high note, with live band performances during assembly accompanied by our very own talented singers. The live music and singing created a lively and spirited atmosphere, which was surely the most fitting ending to the week.
This year’s Aesthetics Week was truly memorable, entirely attributed to the effort put in by our 姐妹们, staff and special guests. From friendly cooking competitions to soulful open mic sessions, our 姐妹们’s ingenuity and talent in their aesthetic pursuits really shone through.
We hope you enjoyed Aesthetics Week 2023 as much as we did, see you next year!
