“蛇年快乐!” On the 28th of January, our full school gathered to celebrate Chinese New Year together as one 圣尼各拉大家庭. A sea of spirited 姐妹们 donned their most beautiful cheongsams in anticipation of the exciting celebration awaiting them.

Showering in the festivities, we were privileged with the opportunity of starting our celebrations with CNY mass, led by our catholic students and staff. After which, mandarin orange couplets filled the air with squeals of elation while waiting for our father to bless them. However, this excitement was short-lived due to the sudden change in weather. Still, this did not dampen the spirits of our 姐妹们. Instead, it was heartening to see many stepping in to help, as well as to ensure the programme continued to run smoothly!

To drive on everyone’s enthusiasm, we witnessed our Sec 1 妹妹们 and former Sec 4 姐姐们 receiving various sectors of the Lee Poh See Award! With our very own 校长婆婆 gracing the atmosphere, laughter and admiration was everywhere as she shared many hilarious but inspiring stories of the growth of our school.

After swiftly moving to the hall, we were blessed with the opportunities of being entranced by the sight of the performances on stage. Not only did we get to watch our 妹妹们 from the primary side show off their proficient 古筝-playing skills, but we were also fortunate enough to witness the alluring dance so beautifully brought to us by our school’s Dance CCA. Furthermore, we were also given the opportunity to catch a glimpse of a face-changing performance, a unique part and culture of the Sichuan Opera, as well as a popular part of Chinese Culture, the Lion Dance, which showcased the history of the Chinese New Year. Needless to say, everyone was collectively in awe of such a spectacular act.

After much enjoyment, we came to the end of the celebration, feeling both reluctant and fulfilled. We concluded our fun with taking pictures with our friends and classmates, capturing memories of this very special and amazing experience. Not only will moments from this very day stay in the gallery of our phones for years to come, but also be etched in our hearts for a lifetime.

“Overall, I felt that the celebration was really engaging, especially during the performances where I got to be immersed in the popular arts famous in Chinese culture. Personally, i really liked the 川剧变脸 performance and I felt that the performer really captured the audiences' attention," Charisse Chua of 3 Loyalty mentioned, her eyes sparkling as she recalled her experience of that day. Just a simple thought of what happened on that day manages to bring a wide smile to all of our faces, giving us a pinch of bittersweet in our hearts. While we get to celebrate the Lunar New Year festival in school year after year, they will never cease to captivate us, for each passing year carves its own irreplaceable mark upon our hearts, creating heartfelt reminiscences that endure through time.
