After 4 long awaited years, our school is finally back with SN fiesta! With the COVID-19 safety measures being lifted, our 姐妹们 can take part in the much anticipated fiesta, bringing back our old games and rides, like Bumper Cars, Meteorite, and others, as well as new ones such as the Ladybug Bouncy Castle and many others. The day started off as both the primary and secondary sides gathered around the secondary parade square as we awaited the arrival of our honorable Guest of Honor, The Minister of state for Education and Manpower. After the speeches from our principal and the GOH, we were ready to begin!

The Fiesta was officially kicked off with our very own cheerleading team running onto the parade square, accompanied with our students’ vibrant cheers of support. The spectacular performance ended with the bangs of confetti, marking the start of the Fiesta!

However, just as everyone was eager to go for the rides, the lightning alert sounded as it started drizzling .Our hearts sank as we watched the inflatables getting deflated due to the downpour. But not to worry! Our fellow students proceeded to try out the indoor games that were in the school hall. It held 3 of our inflatables —Garden creature slide, Rainbow challenger and Ringo slide. Not forgetting the numerous Uncle Ringo game stalls run by our 姐妹们. Our students’ eagerness to have the time of their life at the fiesta were not at all affected by the rain, especially with our DJ booth, that allowed song requests from students at only 2 dollars, hyping up our 姐妹们 all the way!

Apart from the wide variety of rides and games, we also offered a huge selection of popular foods amongst the students. The canteen was filled with stalls run by our very own canteen vendors as well as other stalls that were rarely seen on school days, selling fun foods such as the buttery popcorn, cotton candy, bubble tea and more! These scrumptious delights invited long snaking queues.

After a few hours, the rain finally subsided and our students could enjoy their long awaited rides in the parade square. Meteorite, being the most popular ride of all times, had immediately attracted students rushing to the ride. The queue for the ride was so long that it had a wait time of up to 2 hours and more. Another ride that captured the hearts of our students was the haunted house run by CDS (Chinese Drama Society). The students filled the corridor where the Primary MPR was, camping there in anticipation as they waited for their turn to experience being scared out of their wits. It was certainly a thrilling experience when the students were led into a pitch black room equipped with only a torch that shone dim red light. With many unexpected jumpscares from our CDS members, there were also loud bangings on the doors to make sure our students got their money's worth.

A highlight of that memorable day would be the dunking booth. Prior to the fiesta, our track girls were in charge of the dunking booth and we had the chance to bid for a shot at dunking SN’s very own ‘celebrities’— Principal Mrs Fiona Tan, vice principal Mr Aloysius Ting, teachers Mr Daniel Khor and 常征老师. When the day arrived, our girls swarmed the dunking booth, hoping to be the golden hand that lands the teachers in the cold tub of water, earning cheers from our schoolmates.

Eventually, the day had to come to an end after the extension of the operating hours of the fiesta due to overwhelming support. Of course, let’s not forget that none of these could take place without the countless people that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure a perfect and memorable experience for our students. Leanne Sim from 1W shares that although it was “quite stressful as sometimes the queues could get very long” when mending the stalls she felt that “Overall, it was a really enriching experience”. Not only did the organizing committee and student council take charge of the overall preparation of the fiesta, our students also contributed by mending the booths allocated to their classes. Without their efforts, this year’s fiesta could not be such a successful one.

Overall, this years’ fiesta was definitely a spectacular one, where we could finally take a break from the busy school life and fully enjoy ourselves without any restrictions!
